ZENONIA 1 Steam vs Original: Every Remaster Change
The developers’ rule
In the August 21, 2026 interview the ZENONIA 1 team described one test for every change: does it deliver the original’s fun more effectively, or does it change the original itself? Things that “presented players with meaningful choices” stayed; things that “stemmed from the limitations of the devices at the time” were rebuilt.
Kept as it was
- The story and characters, from TriPalo to Osiris.
- Three classes, the stat and skill-tree structure, equipment and skills.
- The good/evil system, hunger and weight, and the day/night cycle.
- Combat rhythm and movement timing, including the double-tap directional dash and its afterimage trail, restored after demo players asked for it.
Changed for PC
| Area | What changed |
|---|---|
| Controls | Keyboard and full controller support; rumble strength setting; quick save on gamepad; a guide pop-up at start. No mouse. |
| UI | Pixel-art-style menus, redesigned quest icons, smaller target-monster box, distinct Miss text, larger dialogue portraits, better hunger gauge. |
| Convenience | Gear comparison with stat deltas, equipment slot icons, repair-all at the blacksmith, hold-to-change quantities in shops, confirmation pop-ups when leaving settings. |
| Combat feedback | Longer-lasting damage numbers, screen shake on criticals, clearer buff and element info. |
| Audio | Separate music and SFX sliders, replaced grating sound effects, a level-up sound. |
| Progression | 44 Steam achievements; the old premium items (revives, XP scrolls, reset stones) are bought with achievement points. |
| Languages | Ten interface languages, with more considered post-launch. |
| Balance | ”Balance adjustments” are mentioned in the interview without specifics; Steam players report old walkthroughs still work. |
Ruled out
The Next Fest feedback review marked these as not possible with the current game structure: mouse input, auto-save (quick save is the substitute), a story recap or dialogue log, inserting items between inventory slots, and a circular skill tree. Full dialogue skip is “tricky”, with faster advance under review.
Still under review
Player HP bar above Regret, bulk selling and item sorting, more game-speed steps, a brightness setting, a pixel font, quest markers on gathering trees, and extra achievements. The full tracker is on the update tracker page.
What it is not
It is not a remake. There are no new areas, classes or quests, and the mobile in-app purchases are gone rather than replaced with a new store. If you are searching for “ZENONIA 1 remake”, this is the restoration Com2us shipped.
